Friends of Yamuna Foundation
The members of the foundation perform a spiritual and cultural ritual on the banks of the Yamuna River, similar to the famous Ganga Aarti in Varanasi and Haridwar in the evevning. This ceremonial worship involves the offering of prayers, lighted lamps, flowers, and incense to the river, symbolizing respect and reverence for the river as a lifeline for millions of people. The aarti typically takes place at sunset, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere, as devotees and visitors gather to honour the sacred river.
Beyond its religious significance, the Yamuna Aarti also serves as a reminder of the need to protect and preserve the river's ecological health. It draws attention to the cultural, spiritual, and environmental importance of the Yamuna, encouraging communities to take responsibility for its conservation. By blending spirituality with environmental awareness, such rituals inspire a deeper connection with nature and a collective sense of stewardship.
